Surgical fixation for pickleball-related Achilles ruptures may improve quality of life
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Patients who sustained Achilles tendon ruptures while playing pickleball benefit from surgical fixation, according to data presented at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Annual Meeting.
“Most patients who suffer pickleball-related Achilles tendon ruptures will experience significant improvements in function and will have a high rate of satisfaction,” William M. Engasser, MD, foot and ankle surgeon at Twin Cities Orthopedics, told Healio. “Some of these patients choose to not return to the sport but those who do can expect a recovery timeline of approximately 1 year.”
