About Dr. Williams
Benjamin R. Williams, MD is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot, ankle and trauma care, practicing with TRIA in Bloomington and Burnsville, Minnesota. He completed his fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and maintains an active research and publication record. He treats the full range of foot and ankle conditions, from sports injuries and fractures to arthritis and reconstructive surgery.
Ankle Joint Replacement
Ankle joint replacement, or total ankle arthroplasty, relieves the pain of severe end-stage ankle arthritis while preserving the joint's motion. Benjamin R. Williams, MD performs both primary and revision ankle replacement, and trained in the procedure during his fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
BioCartilage Regeneration
Cartilage is the smooth surface that lets the bones of your ankle glide against each other. When a piece of it is damaged — usually by an injury, sometimes years earlier — the defect does not fill back in on its own. Cartilage has almost no blood supply, and the body cannot regrow it the way it heals bone. What is left is a bare patch on the talus that causes deep ankle pain, catching, and swelling that returns with activity.
